Transportation Plan & Traffic Calming Policy

In 2005 the City embarked upon the creation of a city-wide Traffic Calming Policy (TCP) initiative. The TCP was developed in conjunction with the Strategic Transportation Plan and both projects are now complete. A significant amount of work has been undertaken on the TCP initiative to date including consultation with a public stakeholder committee as well as the public.

The two primary goals of traffic calming are to enhance safety by reducing the potential for and lessening the consequences of conflicts between road users, and preserve neighbourhood liveability by reducing the negative impacts of short-cutting or speeding traffic.

The establishment of a Traffic Calming Policy will provide procedure to receive and evaluate requests for traffic calming within the City under guiding principles that will influence the development of neighbourhood plans.
