White Rock Residential Collection Programs
The City of White Rock provides solid waste collection for all single family homes, eligible townhouses and apartment complexes of 6 units of less. The City does not provide garbage or green waste containers.
Visit the Garbage Program Guidelines page for more information on residential garbage collection.
Visit the Green Can Program Guidelines page for more information on organics and yard waste collection.
Visit the Recycling Program Guidelines, page to find out where you can pick up curbside recycling boxes, bags and acceptable materials.
Commercial and multi-family properties (more than 6 units) should contact their service provider for solid waste collection inquiries, materials accepted or missed collections.
Solid Waste User Fee
In 2015 the City incorporated a separate soild waste utility fee for solid waste collection to single family homes and eligible multi-family properties. A separate utility fee increases customer awareness of the cost of providing the service as the rate is transparent rather than embedded as part of the Municipal Tax Levy.
Please have your garbage, organics/yard trimmings and recycling ready for collection by 8:00 a.m. on your collection day or it may not be collected;
Green waste/yard trimmings is collected every week. Each property is allowed up to 10 kraft bags/containers of green waste per week. Each container shall not exceed four cubic feet or 110 litres in size (one standard garbage can size), and together with the contents, should not exceed 50 lbs.
Recycling is collected every week. Each property requires a blue box for plastic/metal containers, a red box for glass containers and a yellow bag for paper products;
Garbage is collected every other week. Each property is allowed up to two (2) cans every other week. Each container shall not exceed four cubic feet or 110 litres in size (one standard garbage can size), and together with the contents, should not exceed 50 lbs.
Please remember the City of White Rock currently has manual a curbside collection system, which means crews have to physically lift the garbage into the truck. Larger containers are not suitable for our manual collection system because the crews are not able to safely lift them. Also, for health and safety reasons, collectors are not permitted to reach into a container to remove the contents.
The City has established Bylaw 2084 - a bylaw to provide for the collection, removal, disposal of recycling and solid waste to guide garbage and disposal practices and management.
