Painters' Square Information

Demonstration and display of fine arts on the White Rock Museum Plaza, 14970 Marine Drive, White Rock V4B 1C4 

All work must be the original work of the permitted artist.

Application Process

  1. Artist applies and completes Painters' Square Application Form [PDF - 403 KB].  Artists who held a License in the previous year do not need to resubmit their portfolio for jury, but they must submit an application form by April 15.
  2. Artists then submit their portfolio to White Rock Leisure Services at White Rock Community Centre at 15154 Russell Avenue, April 15-30. 
  3. The Painters' Square jury (representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Semiahmoo Arts and City of White Rock Leisure Services) will review submissions.
  4. Artists will be notified when they have been selected.  All selections for the current year will be completed by May 31. 

Licensing

  1. Selected Artists will be notified starting May 1.
  2. Selected Artists will be required to obtain a Painters' Square License from the City of White Rock, Leisure Services, prior to commencing work.
  3. The Painters' Square High Season License will be valid May to October 31.  The Painters' Square Extended Season License will be valid May to December 31.
  4. The License fee for the High Season is $85.00 and $150.00 for the Extended Season.  A maximum of 20 Painters' Square Licences will be issued. 
  5. Each Licensed Artist will be given Vending Procedures and a Location Map.  10% commission on sales must be remitted to Leisure Services on the 30th of each month during the license term.
  6. The Licensed Artist must be on-site and display their License at all times.  The License is not transferable.  Signage, advertising or commercial activity is not permitted.  The License may be revoked by the City of White Rock at any time.

Scheduling

  1. Licensed Artists are permitted to set up during Museum Gift Shop operating hours only.  4 of 5 available spots can be reserved one week in advance.  First come, first service on a non-reserved spot.
  2. Painters' Square Plaza may be limited or closed for City events including Canada Day, Tour de White Rock, and Spirit of the Sea Festival.  Licensed Artists will be notified in advance.
  3. Mediums not permitted on Painters' Square include:  spray paint, newsprint, crafts and jewelry.
