It’s been an honour representing White Rock this past term. While we were under the shadow ofCOVID, our District steadfastly continued to focus on our students education.
We have worked closely with the Ministry of Education making our Capital needs known, and our progress in implementing daycares into our schools. We also share with them our progress on our mutual goals of reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion.
Not only are we BC’s largest District, but we are one of half a dozen largest public Districts in Canada. Many eyes are on Surrey as leaders!
While we’ve opened 6 new schools this term, those seats really just take care of growth, not making a huge dent in our portable situation. Sky Train’s expansion in Surrey will add to our enrolment increases.
Inflation is proving an added challenge to our tight budget situation. We must ensure Surrey gets its fair share of Education funding.
I have served for 4 plus years on the BCSTA Board of Directors, been Surrey’s rep on BCSTA Provincial Council many times, and sat on numerous committees, Provincial and locally. Currently, I am sitting on the BCSTA/ BCTF Group Life Insurance committee and Teacher Qualification Board.
My fervent hope is every student gets to enjoy their schooling as much as I enjoyed mine. I would be pleased to serve our White Rock community once again, if that is your wish.
