Serving as your Councillor for the past four years has been a privilege and an honour. Admittedly the term was challenging, in which we had to contend with damage to the Pier and the global COVID pandemic. Despite this, we lowered heights in a revised Official Community Plan, restored Question period, improved relations with our Semiahmoo neighbours, and created a new tone of openness. Over my term, I served as chair of the Parking Task Force, Public Art Committee, Economic Development Committee, History Committee, and served as Representative to the Water Community Advisory Panel, Housing Committee, and White Rock BIA. I voted consistently to limit unnecessary spending, advocated consistently for residents, and voted ‘no’ to oversized developments that didn’t meet the new Official Community Plan (OCP).
In a second term, I would like to complete the work put on hold by COVID. This includes a ‘back to basics’ focus on services like reducing permit wait times, improved garbage collection, improved beach access, and support for our first responders. I would like to enhance the beauty and walkability of White Rock though improvements to parks, walkways, and the waterfront. Development must continue to meet the OCP and fit the character of existing neighbourhoods. White Rock must also do our part with community partners to provide affordable inclusive housing. I will continue to be a strong supporter of events, concerts, and local business. I believe in a City that works for you and continues to be a special place to live.
