Streets
The City asks the public to report any hazards on the streets so we may respond as quickly as possible to repair the problem.

Please note: calls received after regular office hours are automatically forwarded to Fire Dispatch to address.
Street Lights
To report damaged or non-working streetlights contact the Engineering and Municipal Operations Department 604-541-2181. Please include the type of pole (wooden or metal) and the street address.
Road Surface - Potholes
Road surfaces consist of asphalt or gravel (laneways). Roads are evaluated annually and maintenance is completed as required. Report potholes to the Engineering and Municipal Operations Department 604-541-2181.
Snow & Ice Control
The Engineering and Municipal Operations Department annually reviews the Snow and Ice Control Plan. The plan sets the priorities for the streets, sidewalks, walkways, stairs, parking lots and other City facilities. Some streets maybe closed because of steep grades that cause safety concerns during dangerous weather conditions. As per the City's Bylaw 1529, residents and businesses are responsible to clear any snow and ice from the sidewalks adjacent to their property.
Signs
Regulatory signs, warning signs and information signs within the City are installed and maintained by the Engineering and Municipal Operations Department. Existing signs are monitored through a sign tracking database. Sign placement is evaluated through the collection of data such as traffic volumes, speed, parking space use, accident studies and roadway measurements. Traffic Signals
The Engineering and Municipal Operations Department maintains various traffic and pedestrian signals within the City. Perimeter traffic and pedestrian signals on the White Rock/Surrey boundary roads are maintained jointly with the City of Surrey. If you notice a traffic signal or pedestrian light malfunctioning, please report the location immediately to the Engineering and Municipal Operations Department at 604-541-2181.
Sidewalks
Sidewalks are inspected by Public Works annually and repairs completed as required. Residents and businesses are required by a City Bylaw to keep the sidewalks adjacent to their property clear of debris, snow and ice. Please report any hazards observed on any sidewalk to the Engineering and Municipal Operations Department at 604-541-2181
Boulevards
Improvements to the boulevard on City property must meet the approval of the City Engineer. If you wish to improve your boulevard, a Boulevard Improvement Permit is required. The City does not accept responsibility for the landscaping and maintenance of boulevards adjacent to private property. Street Cleaning
Street cleaning services involves the sweeping of streets and gutters to remove dirt, debris and hazards. The aim is to ensure the safety, continual drainage and the reduction of dust and air pollution. This is accomplished by the use of a mechanical sweeper and manual cleaning at inaccessible locations. Major arterial streets such as Johnston Road are swept weekly. Other streets are swept annually. Parking lots on Marine Drive are swept once a week.
