Committee volunteer opportunities

Volunteering is a great way for residents to get involved, provide input and expertise on important issues, and make a positive contribution to our community. The City is currently accepting applications to fill vacancies on the committees below:


The Advisory Design Panel (ADP) is appointed to advise Council on the quality of design of the built environment of the City and specifically to provide comments and suggestions to improve applications for development permits as they relate to the form and character of development, including multifamily homes, duplexes and triplexes.

 The following members are sought for appointment until December 31, 2024:

  1.  Three (3) City of White Rock residents and/or property owners (with backgrounds in civil engineering, urban planning, real estate, development, construction, architectural technology, building design or residential design)
  2.  One (1) representative of those who have physical mobility limitations (being a person with a physical disability or someone involved in working with persons with physical disabilities)

Meetings dates for the Advisory Design Panel have not yet been determined; however, ADP meetings have commonly been held on the third Tuesday of each month from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.


The Board of Variance (BoV) adjudicates appeals for minor variances to the Zoning Bylaw, where compliance with the Zoning Bylaw would create an undue hardship. A combination of personal attributes, experience, community association, skills and knowledge will be considered for these positions.

Three (3) members are sought for appointment until December 31, 2025.

Meeting dates for the Board of Variance have not yet been determined; however, BoV meetings have commonly been held on the fourth Wednesday of every other month, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

Application Process:  

Complete and submit the online Committee Member Application Form. All applicants should include a resume and/or cover letter.

Complete applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022. 

The information submitted will be considered by Council as part of the appointment process. Once the decisions have been made, all applicants will be contacted with respect to their submissions.
