[ARCHIVED] City of White Rock places staff in essential roles during COVID-19 pandemic

The City of White Rock is ensuring that employees are placed in essential roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City has 146 employees on staff, with 62 of those employees teleworking. Although City buildings are closed to the public, services are available online, by phone and through email.

The City’s Human Resources team has partnered with other departments to identify where employees are needed most, matching skill sets to essential work that needs to be done. The City is balancing those needs against a significant loss of revenue, expected to result in a deficit of $1.8 million by the end of August 2020.

To help manage costs, the City initially issued layoff notices to 30 employees, all of whom were casual or contract workers.
