The City of White Rock is ensuring that employees are placed in essential roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City has 146 employees on staff, with 62 of those employees teleworking. Although City buildings are closed to the public, services are available online, by phone and through email.

The City’s Human Resources team has partnered with other departments to identify where employees are needed most, matching skill sets to essential work that needs to be done. The City is balancing those needs against a significant loss of revenue, expected to result in a deficit of $1.8 million by the end of August 2020.

To help manage costs, the City initially issued layoff notices to 30 employees, all of whom were casual or contract workers.

Mayor Darryl Walker

“We sincerely thank our casual and contract workers for their time with the City of White Rock and wish them well. With regard to our full-time staff, they have shown great flexibility in going where they are needed most, trying new tasks and doing their jobs remotely, in many cases.

Our City employees are a valuable asset, and play an important role in providing excellent customer service to our community. We are all in this together, and we will get through this together.”
