Memorial Park is Now Open

Memorial Park, White Rock, B.C.

The City of White Rock is pleased to share that the Memorial Park revitalization project is now complete! The pier-side lawn and panoramic ocean views that Memorial Park offers make the park one of the City’s favourite gathering spaces. Memorial Park features enhanced and expanded space and amenities for community celebrations and public use including:

  • Improved accessibility
  • Splash zone water feature
  • Plaza space for concerts and other performances
  • Wider promenade at the Pier entrance
  • Sloped green lawn
  • Additional benches and built-in seating at the green space
  • Additional lighting for safety
  • New Pier washrooms

Accessibility to Memorial Park has now been enhanced. A wider ramp with a more manageable slope for those with mobility concerns or families with strollers and a wider promenade at the entrance to the Pier enables even more people to enjoy what the waterfront has to offer.

The plaza space at Memorial Park will host many White Rock events this summer including Canada Day by the Bay, the TD Concert Series, and the White Rock Sea Festival. Be sure to check the events calendar for more information.

Public Art on Display:

Public Art featured in Memorial Park includes “Metamorphosis” and “Coastal Cradle”.

  • “Metamorphosis” by Joan Miriam Adams, is a 7-foot sculpture which represents a woman in the act of turning into a bird and was originally installed at Memorial Park in 1988. The new location of “Metamorphosis” is now realigned diagonally to produce better shadows and lights to better reveal the texture of the sculpture.
  • “Coastal Cradle” by Canadian artist Andy Davies is a new installation at Memorial Park. Sitting just west of the Pier, the 17-foot-high “Coastal Cradle” draws on the grace and delicate nature of a blade of grass combined with a droplet of water, evoking the precious and fragile moment of early morning. The flowing organic movement of the blades reference the undulating beach and waves and the suggestion of cradling leads the viewer to a place of tenderness, kindness, and the protection of something sacred.
