Erosion Repair on East and West Beach
About Erosion Repair
Due to storms, the foreshore on White Rock beach has suffered damage from the effects of wave erosion. Specific areas at east and west beach have been identified as requiring repair and protection from future events.
City contracted crews will be completing reparation work. This will include the placement of rip rap and the restoration of landscaping.
We thank you for your patience as we work to complete this important project.
Update April 7, 2017:
West Beach erosion repair is now complete. To protect from future storm damage, Crews placed rip rap along the shoreline and restored areas with landscaping. Log debris was removed along east and west beach for safety and protection measures. Especially in the event of a storm, the logs are thrown against the riprap structure and can potentially knock material out of place. They have also been strewn up onto the promenade in past events.
Crews will complete the line painting in the adjacent parking lot next week, weather dependent.
The Oxford railway crossing has now been reopened to pedestrian traffic.
Update, April 3, 2017:
Crews will be adding topsoil and seeding this week. Please stay off of the newly seeded areas to allow the new growing an opportunity to regenerate.
Please note that the Oxford Rail Crossing has been closed for safety purposes due to the close proximity to the worksite.
Update, March 10, 11:00 a.m.:
Construction will take place from March 15 to the end of March with weekend work expected.
Working hours will be as per the City's noise bylaw (7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m on weekdays, and 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays)
Update, March 7, 2:25 pm: Work is being delayed until further notice due to the snow.
In anticipation of erosion repair work set to begin this week on East Beach, the City has set up site fencing, closed the pedestrian rail crossing at Finlay, and closed off parking stalls adjacent to the work site to allow for equipment and material to be deposited.
Please note that this work is weather dependent and may be delayed due to inclement weather which affects the work site and material supplier. The City will post updates on this web page.
