Semiahmoo Bay and Beyond:

The Hidden Secrets of White Rock Waters

June 1 to September 3, 2012

Every year thousands of people flock to the beaches of White Rock to take in the magnificent landscape of scenic White Rock waters while they breathe in the fresh sea air. The White Rock Museum & Archives and maritime enthusiasts Diane and Joel Nauss are proud to present Semiahmoo Bay and Beyond: the Hidden Secrets of White Rock Waters, an exhibit to showcase the obscure maritime history of the Semiahmoo Bay and beyond. Not only a place of relaxation and recreation, White Rock waters have been navigated by members of the Semiahmoo first nation, early explorers in North America, fur traders, those with gold fever, Americans and British surveying the border and early industrialists looking to profit from such a favorable location in the northwest.

Discover things you would never believe about the familiar White Rock landscape while you enjoy nautical artwork by local artist Dale Byhre. Dale creates each painting through close examination of historical records, attempting to document the significant historical events of White Rock waters spanning a period of over 250 years. Study artifacts from our collection while we expose the history of this area that is, was or could have been. Don't miss this excellent opportunity to explore the early history of the West Coast of North America while you uncover the secrets that are hidden in the waters of White Rock.
