Privatization of commercial and multi-family recycling and garbage collection

The direction to privatize commercial and multi-family recycling and garbage collection in White Rock effective July 1, 2015, originally announced earlier in January this year, was reaffirmed at the Special Council Meeting on Friday, April 10, 2015. The City will be offering assistance to commercial and multi-family residents to support the transition from a public to private solid waste collection which will include:

  • availability of staff to provide technical assistance, for example, to guide residents through a procurement process until a private waste hauler is selected;
  • providing education and awareness to all property owners regarding solid waste; and
  •  providing kitchen catcher containers to all residents to assist with organics collection.
