The City of White Rock opened the Pier and the Promenade as soon as possible following the storm of December 2018.

The City restored and reopened the East Beach Promenade in July 2019 and the Pier on Aug. 27, 2019.

The cost to reconstruct the damaged section of the Pier is $4.3 million.

Preliminary cost estimates for the reconstruction of the remaining sections of the Pier—including design, archaeological permitting, environmental permitting, seismic improvements, construction and contingency—are estimated to be $11.6 million.

The total Pier repair and reconstruction is planned to be paid for through a variety of sources, including:

The Province of British Columbia has given the City $1 million toward the December 2018 storm damage, including the Pier
The City will receive insurance proceeds related to the damage
The City has applied for further federal/provincial infrastructure grant funding
Community fundraising proceeds
City reserves

5. Will the Pier feature a marina again?: As plans for the Pier’s continued restoration move forward, City Council will discuss and decide on future details for the White Rock Pier.

6. Will the Pier undergo more upgrades?: More upgrades are planned for the White Rock Pier. Those details will be shared as they become available.

7. How long is the White Rock Pier?: At 470 metres, the White Rock Pier is Canada’s longest pier. A specially cut wood plank at the foot of the Pier helps to celebrate that fact.
