What are the costs associated with repairing and upgrading the Pier?

The cost to reconstruct the damaged section of the Pier is $4.3 million.

Preliminary cost estimates for the reconstruction of the remaining sections of the Pier—including design, archaeological permitting, environmental permitting, seismic improvements, construction and contingency—are estimated to be $11.6 million.

Funding
The total Pier repair and reconstruction is planned to be paid for through a variety of sources, including:

  • The Province of British Columbia has given the City $1 million toward the December 2018 storm damage, including the Pier
  • The City will receive insurance proceeds related to the damage
  • The City has applied for further federal/provincial infrastructure grant funding
  • Community fundraising proceeds
  • City reserves
